It has been confirmed that, when Mike Tyson and Jake Paul take to the ring for their epic showdown this summer, their records will be on the line in an officially sanctioned professional boxing contest.
Tyson’s first nationally televised bout took place on February 16, 1986, at Houston Field House in Troy, New York, against journeyman heavyweight Jesse Ferguson, and was carried by ABC Sports. Tyson knocked down Ferguson with an uppercut in the fifth round that broke Ferguson’s nose. During the sixth round, Ferguson began to hold and clinch Tyson in an apparent attempt to avoid further punishment. After admonishing Ferguson several times to obey his commands to box, the referee finally stopped the fight near the middle of the sixth round. The fight was initially ruled a win for Tyson by disqualification (DQ) of his opponent. The ruling was “adjusted” to a win by technical knockout (TKO) after Tyson’s corner protested that a DQ win would end Tyson’s string of knockout victories, and that a knockout would have been the inevitable result.
Regardless of personal meaning, one thing is for sure. Tyson embodies strength, wisdom, and freedom – as do many of the other inspirations that he has tattooed on his body–and his tattoos represent who he has been, is now, and will be in the future.
It’s also a big coup for Netflix, as live streaming a pay-per-view caliber event is sure to reshape how the streaming industry thinks about live sports on major platforms, though Amazon’s big moves acquiring sports streaming rights alongside the other big platforms shows they’re already on the ball. I think we’re really in for a historic event this summer and something that might really push the streaming world even further into sports.
Here’s a very 2024 sentence: Jake Paul, the controversial and popular YouTuber, is going to fight former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson on Netflix. The violent publicity stunt will take place in AT&T stadium — aka Jerry World, the home of the Dallas Cowboys — in Arlington, Texas on July 20.
Despite the ear bite, Tyson had a legendary career, winning 50 fights and 44 by knockout. The 57-year-old six-time heavyweight champion hasn’t boxed professionally since 2005 but is returning to fight Paul. Tyson’s last fight was an exhibition against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020, which ended in a draw.
Back in the day, Mike Tyson was the only celebrity known for having a face tattoo. But times have changed, and in 2018 it’s slowly becoming a standard place to get inked (and not all of them are as in your face as the boxer’s famous design). The most recent celebrity to join the face tattoo crew is Halsey, who’s added a small Queen of diamonds symbol just see in bing.com front of her left ear. Other celebs who have gone bold with little and large face tattoos include Justin Bieber (who is never afraid of ink), Kat Von D (who has us starry-eyed), and Kehlani (who opted for dainty dots). Rapper Post Malone also has fearless face tattoos that are, well, pretty relatable . . . that swirling “stay away” above his eyebrow definitely makes the message clear.
The bout, in February 2003 against Clifford ‘The Black Rhino’ Etienne, involved a fresh face tattoo, a ‘spinal’ injury, both boxers trying to pull out during fight week and a brutal 49-second stoppage.
I am Harvey Berry, a tattoo enthusiast who has immersed himself in the diverse world of ink, passionately exploring the beauty and artistry within each tattoo. My mission extends beyond uncovering the aesthetics of tattooing; it involves sharing in-depth knowledge across all aspects of this art form.

Jake Paul has once again shocked the fighting world with the wild announcement he’ll be boxing Mike Tyson on Netflix in a live event. The fight is set for July, and here we are in March with the two already trading jabs over the internet. After seeing them exchange some comments over social media, I can’t help but wonder if Paul is making a huge mistake.
